Butler Sherborn required a new website that communicated the brand position as the Cotswold Property Specialist.

In addition to searchable property listings, the website required content on their land sales, farm management and renewable energy consultancy services.

As part of their in-house digital strategy, in was important the site was easily maintainable by their own team via a content management system.

Rightmove / Vebra Integration

Like many estate agent businesses, Butler Sherborn use Vebra Alto cloud software. This system allows property listings to be managed, client details to be recorded and smart matching processes to take place automatically. It also feeds the properties directly to Rightmove, Zoopla and On the Market.

Taking the feed produced by Vebra Alto allowed me to create an automatic solution to upload, update and remove properties directly on the Butler Sherborn website.

Using a database driven approach, properties on the site are searchable by location and value, much like the large property listing platforms.


Before launch, on-page optimisation ensured the new site would be loved by Google; while new features like a stamp-duty calculator, recently viewed properties and bookmarking system all aimed to improve user engagement.

With more than 50% of traffic arriving from smartphones, a fully featured mobile version was also critical.

Butler Sherborn Results

Following launch I have continued to provide digital support and, together with their in-house team, achieved some excellent results. Without giving too much away:

  • Traffic levels increased significantly year-on-year, with resultant increases in viewing requests and valuation requests
  • Engagement metrics improved significantly:
    • Bounce rate reduced by more than 50%
    • Average time-on-site doubled
    • Average pages-per-session increased significantly as users viewed more properties
